A 44-year-old Mberengwa man has been slapped with 18 month jail term after being found guilty of robbery as defined in section 126 (1)(a) of the criminal law codification and reform act chapter 9:23.
It was the state’s case that on the 16th of May 2021 at around 19:00hrs at Ngeezi business Centre the complainant Courage Zhou of Chief Mataruse, Mberengwa disembarked a lift and walked along with a dust road towards her homestead.
The court heard that suddenly the accused Robson Shoko of Mutsegede village under Chief Negove, Mberengwa appeared from the back of the complainant and instructed the complainant to hand over her cellphone and the complainant complied. She surrendered quickly surrendered since the accused started to stab her with a knife
The court also heard that the accused person stabbed her once on the stomach, once on the left arm and on the left side of the chin. The complainant was rescued by people at the Business Centre who then made a police report since the complainant was unconscious.
The Zvishavane Magistrate found the accused guilty as charged and sentenced him to 18 months behind bars and 9 months were suspended for 5 years on good behaviour condition.
