A 20 year old Zvishavane man has been slapped with 36 months behind bars for robbery as defined in section126 of the criminal law codification and reform act chapter 9:23.
It was court’s case that on the 10th of June 2021 at Midlands state University students’ residence the complainant David Phiri who reside at number 8 Adam street Noelville Zvishavane was connected to the Wi-Fi with his cellphone Hisense U lite blue in colour outside close to the fence.
The Accused Thabani Mbizo of L4B Kandodo, Zvishavane approached him and grabbed the complainant by his neck and then took a stone and hit the complainant once on his right ribs and took the phone.
The court heard that the complainant sustained bruises but was not medically examined.
Zvishavane magistrate Archie Wochiunga found the accused guilty as charged and sentenced him to 36 months in prison with 10 months suspended for 5 years on condition of good behaviour.
The value of the cellphone in question is US$60 and it was recovered.
