21 Year Old Handed Suspended Sentence, Community Service For Drug Possession

A 21 year old has been sentenced to 12 months in prison for unlawful or possession of dangerous  drugs as defined in section  157 1 (a)  of the criminal law and codification and reform act chapter 9:23

It was court’s case that on the 15th of June 2021 police were raiding in Mandava when they arrived at house number 760 Mandava Zvishavane where the accused Talent Mpofu resides. They found dagga in a plastic sachet weighing 0.450kg.

The court heard that the accused once appeared in court on the 14th of April 2021 facing similar offense and he paid a ZW$5000 fine instead of 3 months behind bars.

The Zvishavane Magistrate Charity Tonongera found the accused guilty and gave him a non-custodial sentence.

He was sentenced to 12 months in prison 4 months were however suspended on condition he does not commit a similar offense within 3 years, 8 suspended on 108hrs of community service at Mandava Clinic Zvishavane.
