280 Hours Community Service for Zvishavane Man That Bedded a Minor

A 20-year-old Zvishavane man on Monday escaped with a non-custodial sentence after a Zvishavane magistrate sentenced him to 280 hours of community service after he was found guilty of bedding a minor aged (14).

Bruce Chauke of Vugwi village under Chief Mataruse, Mberengwa appeared before Zvishavane magistrate Archie Wochiunga facing charges of having sexual intercourse with a young person.

Prosecuting Tumelo Hindoga told the court that on a date unknown by the prosecutor but during December 2019 to February 2020, the accused proposed love to the complainant and she agreed.

The court heard that the accused and the complainant had sexual intercourse several times until she fell pregnant.

The matter was reported to the police by the complainant’s father which led to the arrest of the accused.

Magistrate Archie Wochiunga sentenced Chauke to 12 months behind bars but 4 were suspended for 3 years on condition of good behaviour and the remaining 8 months suspended for doing 280 hours of community service at Gwemvurachena primary school.
