The Minister of Lands, Agriculture and Rural Resettlement has revealed plans to rehabilitate the country’s 4000 dip-tanks and localize the manufacture of dipping chemicals in a bid to curb tick-borne disease deaths, the country has lost close to 500 000 cattle to tick-borne diseases in the last three years.
Speaking in Parliament recently Agriculture Minister Dr Anxious Masuka said a stopgap measure is already in place with the Presidential Blitz Tick-grease Programme which has reduced deaths by close to 47 per cent since its introduction.
Livestock production is a key a source of livelihoods for 65 per cent of Zimbabwe’s rural households.
The Government launched the Presidential Blitz Tick Grease Programme last year to curb the spread of tick-borne diseases, particularly January Disease.
