Miners Excluded from Policy-Making, Says Union Leader

Justice Chinhema, General Secretary of the Zimbabwe Diamond and Allied Minerals Workers Union, has urged the government to ensure greater inclusion of mine workers and unions in policy-making processes.


Chinhema emphasized that despite being key stakeholders, unions continue to face exclusion from discussions that shape the mining industry. He stressed the importance of involving all parties in decision-making to achieve the nation’s goal of an upper-middle-income economy.

“We are stakeholders who should always be consulted and involved in crafting policies that benefit mining communities and the country’s development,” he stated.


Chinhema reiterated that unions continue to push for dialogue on behalf of mine workers, advocating for their inclusion as essential players in the industry’s future. He criticized the government for creating policies without consulting miners, even though these policies directly affect them.
