The Zimbabwe Republic Police has reiterated its call to drivers to exercise maximum caution and adhere to all road traffic regulations when driving. It has warned drivers not to over speed and not to drive when tired.

This follows an incident on the 16th of May 2022 where two people died on the spot while another one was injured when the Honda fit they were travelling in hit a trailer of a truck going in the opposite direction and overturned.

Speaking to Great Dyke News ZRP Midlands Provincial spokesperson Assistant Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said the incident occurred at around 0500hrs when Dumisani Mabuisela was driving a Honda Fit along Harare-Bulawayo road towards Gweru with two passengers and Chemwapuwa Ndagurwa (43) was driving a UD haulage truck, going the opposite direction with no passengers.

Inspector Mahoko said, “it is alleged that upon approaching the 314km peg the driver of the Honda fit lost control of the vehicle and encroached into the oncoming lane and his Honda fit motor vehicle collided with the trailer of the truck.”

He highlighted that “the Honda fit overturned and the driver and one of his passengers died on the spot while the other passenger sustained injuries.”

Inspector Mahoko indicated that “police attended the scene and the two dead bodies were taken to Gweru Provincial Hospital while the injured passenger was also taken to the same hospital for treatment.”
