In a dramatic week for beauty queens, Rwanda’s Divine Muheto and South Africa’s Chidimma Adetshina find themselves entangled in legal trouble.
Muheto, the reigning Miss Rwanda, was arrested for drink-driving and driving without a license after damaging infrastructure and fleeing the scene in Kigali. Police revealed this was not her first offense, with her court hearing set for Thursday. The Miss Rwanda pageant has faced its own controversies, having been suspended since 2022 following sexual misconduct allegations against organizers.
Meanwhile, Chidimma Adetshina, caught in a nationality scandal in South Africa, is to be stripped of her identity papers. The Department of Home Affairs claims her mother fraudulently obtained South African documents. Adetshina, who dropped out of Miss South Africa amid the uproar, went on to win Miss Universe Nigeria and is now preparing to compete at Miss Universe in Mexico on November 16.
