A bogus Chitungwiza lawyer has been slapped with a 10-month jail term by the Zvishavane Magistrate after being found guilty of contravening dragged Chapter 27:7 “holding out as or pretending to be a lawyer”.
Joseph Chigwedegwere (42) was not asked to plead when he appeared before Zvishavane Magistrate Charity Tonongera.
It was the state’s case that, on October 8 at 8:30 hours the accused proceeded to Zimbabwe prisons and correctional services Zvishavane, introduced himself as a lawyer who wanted to see an inmate prisoner who was convicted in a case of rape.
It is alleged that the accused produced his lawyer’s practising certificate inscribed Masawi and partners legal practitioners and handed it over to the Prisoners who discovered it was a counterfeit certificate.
Magistrate Tonongera sentenced him to 10 months behind bars 6 months suspended on the condition of not committing a similar offence for the next five years.
