Bottled Blunder: Olympic Water Flasks Recalled Over Bisphenol A Fiasco

France has recalled a line of Olympic-branded children’s water bottles just a week before the Paris 2024 Games’ opening ceremony. The consumer recall agency, Rappel Conso, reported that the reusable bottles contain excessive levels of Bisphenol A (BPA), a chemical banned in France since 2015 due to its links to health issues such as breast cancer and infertility.

The affected white flasks, featuring the Olympic rings, Paris 2024 mascot, or flame, were sold between August last year and June. Authorities urge consumers to return the bottles to the stores of purchase.
Bisphenol A is an endocrine disruptor known to interfere with hormones and has been under scrutiny for its safety in food containers. Rappel Conso’s website noted that the bottles, manufactured by Vilac, failed to comply with regulations for food contact products.
