Zimbabwe’s Cabinet has approved new structural reforms aimed at strengthening agricultural security while improving access to equipment and infrastructure.
Information Minister Zhemu Soda said punitive measures for agricultural theft will now be expanded beyond livestock to cover all produce and equipment, including fisheries.
The decision reflects growing concerns over theft affecting productivity and sector viability.
In addition, Cabinet approved the removal of import licensing requirements for agricultural equipment intended for farmers’ own use, a move expected to ease access to machinery and reduce bureaucratic delays.
Authorities also plan to review dam construction regulations to encourage private sector and individual investment in water infrastructure.
The measures are part of broader efforts to enhance resilience and productivity across Zimbabwe’s agricultural sector.
