Chapungu FC fans have called on the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) Central Region Soccer League to take immediate action to improve match officiating after a contentious decision by referee Tawanda Mashindi in their Gweru Derby against Sheasham FC left them frustrated. The match, held at Bata Stadium, ended in a goalless draw, but Chapungu supporters believe their team was unfairly denied a crucial penalty.

In the second half, Chapungu fans were left outraged after what they saw as a clear handball in Sheasham FC’s penalty box went unnoticed by Mashindi and his assistant referees, John Tanyanyiwa and Major Mususa.

Speaking to Great Dyke News on condition of anonymity, several fans expressed their disappointment, accusing the officiating team of costing them two vital points in their push for league success.

“We feel like we were robbed. It was a clear handball, and the referee and his assistants just ignored it. This is not acceptable,” said one frustrated fan. “ZIFA needs to step up and ensure fair and consistent officiating in these crucial matches.”

The draw leaves Chapungu FC, affectionately known as Waru Waru, in a challenging position as the league heads into its decisive stages. Fans are now urging the league’s governing body to address the matter and ensure higher standards of refereeing going forward.
