Chinhoyi Member of Parliament, Engineer Leslie Mhangwa, has criticized the Zimbabwean government for what he views as its abdication of responsibility in the energy sector, placing the burden on private players.
Speaking out on the issue, Mhangwa emphasized the critical role of affordable and sustainable energy for the country’s industrial sector, particularly in relation to energy sold in US dollars.
“The government has failed to plan long-term for energy security, and this is creating obstacles for industries striving to meet the Sustainable Development Goals,” Mhangwa stated.
He highlighted the ongoing challenges facing citizens, stating that the energy crisis is likely to persist unless the government takes stronger action and provides the necessary tools to resolve the issue.
“We are heading into continued darkness unless there is a clear strategic direction to secure energy for our nation,” he concluded.
