Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries Emphasises On The Need To Improve The Country’s Dairy Herd

The Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries CZI says there is need for the country’s dairy herd to be improved to increase the production of milk and in turn stabilise or lower the prices of dairy products.

Speaking to Great Dyke News, CZI President, Henry Cheza said the import component affects the pricing and although there have been measures put in place to improve local milk production the herd is still nowhere near what is required to substitute importation of milk.

Research has shown that Zimbabwe has the highest cost of raw milk at US$0.66 per litre compared to regional counterparts. The price of raw milk in South Africa ranges from US$0.35 per litre to US$0.37 per litre, while in Zambia milk costs between US$0.33 per litre and US$0.35 per litre.
