The Consumer Protection Commission (CPC) has issued a stern warning to schools, advising them against the illegal practice of compelling parents to purchase uniforms and other consumables from the school’s designated outlets. Dr. Mthokozisi Nkosi ,Chairperson of the CPC, confirmed that investigations are underway, and schools found guilty of this practice will face legal action.
Speaking recently, Dr. Nkosi emphasized that schools must not take advantage of parents by mandating the purchase of school items solely from their outlets.
“It is illegal for schools to force parents into this practice. Investigations are currently in progress, and those found in violation of the law will face legal processes,” Dr. Nkosi stated.
This warning comes after increasing complaints from parents who have been pressured to buy uniforms and supplies exclusively from schools, often at inflated prices.
