A Zvishavane couple has appeared before the Zvishavane Magistrates courts facing charges of stock theft as defined in section 114 of the criminal law codification act.
It was the state’s case that the couple Anita Taruma (32) and her husband Thomas Chauke (37)of village Chirere under Chief Masunda stole one cow and four goats from the complainant Stella Muchemenye of plot in village 13 Chirere, Zvishavane
The state led by lsheanopa Mashayanye said on the date unknown by prosecutors but during a period extending January 2020 to July 2021, the accused stole one cattle and four goats belonging to Stella Muchemenye knowing that the complainant was entitled to own, possess, or control the property.
The court heard that the matter came to light after a tip-off and the complainant reported the matter to the police which led to the recovery of two goats that were sold to Wisdom Mudani of village Magamba in Zvishavane and one cattle sold to Zvidzai of Mashunye village Zvishavane.
Zvishavane Magistrate Evia Matura remanded the accused in custody and they will appear today for sentencing.
