A terrifying incident on the Kwekwe-Gokwe Road narrowly spared the lives of four people when their vehicle overturned following a tyre burst on 27 January 2025. The accident occurred at approximately 1:45 PM at the 54 km peg near Joel Business Centre in Zhombe.
Speaking to Great Dyke News ZRP Midlands spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said Tanaka Bwanya, a 20-year-old driver from Mbizo, Kwekwe, was behind the wheel of a Mitsubishi Pajero with six passengers onboard. As the vehicle reached the 54 km mark, the left rear tyre suddenly burst, causing the car to lose control.
The vehicle then overturned once, leaving the passengers in shock.Four of the passengers sustained varying degrees of injuries, and emergency services rushed them to Kwekwe General Hospital for medical attention. Thankfully, the victims were admitted in stable condition and are receiving treatment.
The police have urged motorists to exercise caution on the roads, stressing the importance of regular vehicle maintenance. Authorities are advising drivers to ensure that tyres are not only properly inflated but also free from wear and tear, as well as to avoid speeding, which can significantly increase the risk of accidents.
