Four-month jail term for drug peddling

A 22 year old man from Mandava in Zvishavane this week appeared before the Zvishavane Magistrates’ facing charges of possession of unregistered medicines as defined in the medicines and allied substance codification Act Chapter 15:03.

It was the state’s case that on April 30 2021 at Cottage Roll Maglas around 05:30 police officers on patrol found the accused Brighton Tigere seated in a parked Nissan Sunny motor vehicle where he was asked what he was doing but he failed to give an explanation. This prompted the police to search the vehicle, upon searching Constable Muchandika found 10 bottles of broncleer cough syrup on the seats.

The Court heard that the accused was asked if he had a license authorizing him to possess the medicines but he had none. 

The Zvishavane Magistrate found the accused guilty as charged and sentenced him to 4 months imprisonment, of which 2 months were suspended, and the accused will do community service at Jairos Jiri old people’s home.
