Zimbabwe’s Minister of Mines and Mining Development, Honourable Polite Kambamura, has assured international investors of the government’s full commitment to fostering partnerships that drive sustainable growth in the mining sector.
Speaking on the sidelines of the prestigious African Mining Indaba in Cape Town, Minister Kambamura highlighted the importance of collaboration between the state and private players, specifically pointing to engagements with Valterra, a Platinum Group Metals (PGM) producer operating in the country.
“This has been a positive engagement with Valterra, one of our PGM producers in the country. We are very excited having this kind of engagement with the industry, where they air their views on sustainability, where they want government intervention, their long-term plans, their vision, and so forth,” said Kambamura.
The Minister emphasized that the government is eager to align the visions of private companies with the broader national development agenda.
“As government, we are ready to work with the industry to promote their vision and also the vision of the country at large.”
Kambamura specifically commended Valterra for its resilience during a turbulent period for the global PGM market. He noted that despite significant price volatility over the past year, the company maintained its operations and continued its community development work alongside the government.
“I think you’re aware that a year ago, PGM prices were down, but Valterra continued to float. They did not close doors. They continued supporting government, and as such, we are prepared to also continue supporting them, give them maybe some incentives where necessary, so that we move as a team and as a family,” he said.
The remarks signal a willingness from Harare to offer targeted incentives to mining firms that demonstrate long-term commitment to local operations and sustainability. The Indaba continues to serve as a key platform for Zimbabwe to market its vast mineral resources and court critical investment for the sector’s expansion.
