The Minister of Finance and Economic Development Hon. Prof. Mthuli Ncube says electricity generation faces a number of challenges including obsolete equipment and infrastructure which have negatively impacted the electricity supply leading to load shedding.
Speaking during his 2023 National Budget presentation recently, Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube said the 2023 Budget will, therefore, prioritize the timeous completion of the Hwange 7 & 8 Expansion Project, now at 95% completion, which will bring an additional 600 MW to the national grid.
Zimbabwe has suffered acute power shortages for several years, as successive droughts have resulted in poor inflows into the Kariba Dam and as aging coal-fired power stations have repeatedly broken down.
