The Zimbabwe Diamond and Allied Minerals Workers’ Union has raised concerns over the increase in fatal accidents in the small-scale mining sector, urging the government to take action.
Speaking to Great Dyke News, ZIDAMWU Secretary General, Justice Chinhema said formalization of this sector is the only answer for the miners as the situation on the ground suggests safety is not being prioritized.
He highlighted that the situation gets worse in the rainy season, hence the need for more education and training on safe mining.
He added that the government should invest more in the education and training of small-scale miners to save them from tragedies.
