In a case that has left many in Gutu shaking their heads, Alec Mukaro (46), a revenue officer for the Gutu Rural District Council (RDC), appeared before the Gutu Magistratesā Court on charges of fraud involving a staggering USD 22,000.
Hailing from Mashonganyika Village under Chief Serima, Mukaro stands accused of pocketing a significant portion of shop license fees he was entrusted to collect. Between December 2023 and December 2024, he allegedly collected a total of USD 65,840 from businesses in the area but failed to remit USD 21,975, raising serious questions about the integrity of public funds management.
The court, in its deliberations, granted Mukaro bail but set strict conditions to ensure justice takes its course. He was ordered to deposit USD 200 with the clerk of court, refrain from interfering with state witnesses, and report to the police every Friday.
