Home seekers in Gweru have voiced their discontent regarding significant delays in the allocation of residential stands under the Meadowlands housing development project. The delays have sparked protests and heightened tension among prospective homeowners, many of whom have already made initial payments or signed agreements with the private land development company.
In interviews with the media, several frustrated applicants expressed concern over the lack of communication and transparency from the developer. They are now demanding urgent intervention to facilitate the swift allocation of stands, which have been pending for an extended period. Home seekers highlighted the financial strain they are under, having already committed funds for what they believed would be timely access to property.
A spokesperson for the land development company, however, refrained from providing immediate comments, citing the need to issue an official statement later. The delay has left many questioning the developer’s credibility and commitment to fulfilling their contractual obligations, with some residents fearing further setbacks.
The situation has put a spotlight on the challenges faced by both home seekers and developers in the fast-growing urban areas of Zimbabwe, where housing shortages continue to strain the market.
