A 40-year-old Gweru man has been convicted of physical abuse after assaulting his younger brother during a heated dispute over their family home. Absolom Siyabonga appeared before the Gweru Magistrates’ Court, where he faced charges stemming from the October 20, 2024 incident.

According to court records, the altercation occurred around 2:00 a.m. when Siyabonga returned home to find his 38-year-old brother sleeping at their parents’ house. Armed with a knife, the accused reportedly woke the complainant and threatened him, demanding he vacate the property and find alternative accommodation.

When the complainant refused to leave, a misunderstanding escalated into violence. Siyabonga slapped his brother several times on the right hand and delivered a forceful kick to his stomach.

The court sentenced Siyabonga to four months’ imprisonment, wholly suspended for five years on condition of good behavior. The magistrate emphasized the importance of resolving disputes peacefully and warned against taking the law into oneā€™s hands.
