Heavy rains in Kadoma caused a train derailment over the weekend, but no injuries were reported, the National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) has confirmed.
According to NRZ, 115mm of rainfall was recorded in less than 12 hours on Saturday night, leading to mud accumulation at a level crossing, which covered the tracks and caused the train to derail.
In an update shared on X (formerly Twitter), NRZ reported that its recovery team successfully moved the derailed wagons—still carrying coal—from the accident site to the station. The team is now focusing on aligning the tracks and re-railing the locomotive to restore normal operations.
The railway company assured the public that efforts are underway to clear the affected tracks and prevent further disruptions.
