The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed the death of a 31-year-old man, Qalisani Tshuma, who was fatally attacked by two men after a disagreement over bus fare. The incident occurred on September 13, 2024, in Village Ndabambi, Chief Sogwala, Lower Gweru, at around 8:00 PM.

Speaking to Great Dyke News, ZRP Midlands spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said Tshuma and his friend, Thabo Sibanda (27), were cycling home from Masefa Business Centre when they asked for a lift from an Iveco Sprinter travelling from Bulawayo to Machisa, Kwekwe. The two loaded their bicycles and belongings into the vehicle’s trailer.

Upon reaching their destination, a dispute arose over the bus fare. The conductors, identified as Romeo Sezydekure (38) and Mayibongwe Maphosa (23), allegedly attacked Tshuma with a shovel and a knife. Tshuma died at the scene due to his injuries, while the suspects fled in their vehicle.

The suspects have since been arrested, and investigations are ongoing.
