FC Platinum coach Norman Mapeza paid tribute to the late Nelson Matongorere, hailing him as a football legend whose contributions to Zimbabwean football are immeasurable. Matongorere, who passed away at the age of 68 at a private clinic in Kambuzuma, Harare, on Wednesday night, is remembered for his pivotal role in shaping the coaching landscape of the country.

In an interview with Great Dyke News, Mapeza emphasized Matongorere’s profound impact on football coaching in Zimbabwe. He highlighted Matongorere’s legacy of nurturing numerous coaches across various levels of the game, from the Premiership to lower divisions, tertiary institutions, and schools.

Matongorere’s influence extended beyond coaching clubs; he also played a significant role in the development of women’s football. Working closely with German coach Klaus Dieter Pagels, Matongorere made notable contributions to the growth and success of women’s football in Zimbabwe.

Mapeza urged fellow coaches to honor Matongorere`s legacy by continuing to uphold the values and standards he epitomized. Matongorere’s passing marks the end of an era in Zimbabwean football, but his legacy will undoubtedly endure through the coaches he mentored and the impact he made on the sport.
