After his appointment as the new interim Zimbabwe Senior National team coach by “ZIFA,” Zimbabwe Football Association Norman Mapeza chose his backroom staff.
In an interview with YAFM radio, Mapeza said he picked Taurai Mangwiro, Mandla Mpofu, and Energy Murambadoro who is coming in as the goalkeeper’s coach.
Mapeza and his technical team have their work cut out as they have a mammoth task of erasing the point deficit accrued by the just disbanded Zdravko Logarusic technical team. Zimbabwe has one point and is anchoring the log while the old nemesis South Africa are perched at the top with four points. Ghana and Ethiopia are on three points apiece.
Zimbabwe play Ghana early next month in the back to back FIFA World Cup Qualifiers and Mapeza is aware of the importance of starting to pick points so that they close the gap between them and the early pacesetters.
However, Mapeza who is still with FC Platinum is busy preparing his boys for the CAF Champions League second leg tie against GD Sagrada Esperance of Angola which is on at the National Sports Stadium on Saturday. In the first leg, both teams settled for a scoreless draw in Angola.
Meanwhile, football fans in the GreatDyke have welcomed the appointment of Norman and are optimistic of good times.
