The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) is seeking public assistance in recovering a stolen motor vehicle and apprehending suspects involved in a carjacking incident that occurred on January 20, 2025, along the Mberengwa-Zvishavane Road.

ZRP Midlands spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said the victim, 29-year-old Malex Tafa of Izaya Park, Zvishavane, operates as a Mushikashika driver on the Mberengwa-Zvishavane route. On the night of the incident, Tafa was approached by three unknown men who hired him to transport them to Zvishavane for a fare of $15.

Inspector Mahoko said upon reaching Mberengwa Turnoff, Tafa requested the fare to refuel and was paid the agreed amount. However, at Oreti Turnoff, the situation turned violent when one of the passengers seated behind Tafa brandished an okapi knife and held it against his neck, threatening to stab him if he refused to stop the vehicle.

The suspects tied Tafa’s hands and legs with cable ties, forcibly removed him from the car, and drove off in his white Toyota Probox, registration number AGG 6723, valued at $8,500. Tafa sustained a neck injury during the ordeal and was treated and discharged from Zvishavane District Hospital.
