Hazvinei Tswangira, a 31-year-old resident from Mbizo, Kwekwe, was convicted of assaulting her maid. The incident, which led to Tswangira’s appearance before the Kwekwe Magistrates’ Court on assault charges, occurred on January 26, 2025.
The court heard that Tswangira had accused her maid of engaging in an extra-marital affair with her husband. In a fit of rage, she assaulted the maid, striking her multiple times on the face and right shoulder with both her fists and an electric cable. The severity of the attack prompted the maid to report the incident to the authorities, resulting in Tswangira’s arrest.
Magistrate’s Court delivered its verdict, sentencing Tswangira to pay a fine of USD250 or serve a 60-day prison term if she failed to settle the fine. Additionally, she received a wholly suspended sentence of 3 months imprisonment, indicating the court’s stance on domestic violence and the protection of domestic workers.
