The Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) has strongly condemned the violence that erupted at the funeral of CCC Glen View South Member of Parliament, Grandmore Hakata, over the weekend. Hakata, 56, passed away last week due to complications from diabetes.
The violence unfolded during the proceedings in Glen View South, where supporters clashed, resulting in significant unrest.
Speaking to Great Dyke News, MDC spokesperson Llyod Damba confirmed that the vehicle of MDC leader Douglas Mwonzora was damaged in the altercation.
Damba emphasized that there is no room for violence, thuggery, or intimidation in Zimbabwean society.
“We must uphold the principles of peace, tolerance, and respect for human life,” Damba said. “Such actions are unacceptable and contrary to the values that we strive to build as a nation.”
The funeral, which was meant to be a solemn occasion, turned violent, casting a shadow over the tribute to Hakata. The MDC has called for an immediate end to political violence and urges Zimbabweans to engage in peaceful dialogue and show respect for one another, particularly in moments of national mourning.
