The Midlands Show Society is celebrating a historic milestone this year – 100 years of showcasing innovation, agriculture, and business excellence at the annual Midlands Agricultural Show this year.
Speaking during a media briefing, Midlands Show Society Chairperson Augustine Mupakurirwa said the centenary edition will be “bigger and better”, with a focus on stakeholder engagement, and showcasing innovation in line with climate-smart and sustainable development trends.
“A century is a very long time to attend. It shows deep commitment from our community, exhibitors, and executives who volunteer their time to ensure the show’s success,” Mupakurirwa said.
He highlighted the transformation of the show’s leadership over the years, noting how the once white-dominated management transitioned at the height of the land reform programme.
“All the whites resigned on the same day. We had doubts if we could continue at their level, but through dedication and stakeholder involvement, we are now running the show even better,” he said.
The four-day event will run from Thursday, August 14th to Sunday, August 17th under the theme: “Climate Change Resilience: Smart and Sustainable Futures”.
The show will offer a business platform where stakeholders, service providers, and exhibitors meet, network, and showcase products and innovations, including live demonstrations of new technologies like the recently introduced hand tractor.
“We want our stakeholders to meet potential clients and launch products. It’s about creating business opportunities and sharing innovation,” Mupakurirwa said.
The Midlands Show is one of Zimbabwe’s oldest provincial exhibitions, having been founded in 1925, and continues to play a key role in promoting commerce, agriculture, and community development.
