Bulawayo – September 20, 2025

The 2025 edition of the Chamber of Mines Intermines Golf Tournament, popularly known as the “Jumbo,” teed off today at Bulawayo Country Club, bringing together mining executives, suppliers, and industry stakeholders for two days of competition and networking. The tournament, which concludes tomorrow, is a longstanding tradition in Zimbabwe’s mining calendar, having first been held in 1972 by the Mine Manager of Mazowe Mine.

This year’s event is headlined by Mimosa Mine, the defending champions and one of Zimbabwe’s flagship platinum operations, as they mark a historic milestone — 100 years since commencing operations in 1925.

The tournament is being played under the 4-ball better-ball Stapleford format, blending competition with camaraderie. After completing his opening nine holes, Mimosa General Manager Stephen Ndiyamba expressed satisfaction with both the turnout and the spirit of the event.

“The tournament has started well, and we are delighted by the attendance. The Jumbo gives players across the mining sector and suppliers a chance to interact in a chilled and relaxed environment,” Ndiyamba said.

Zimbabwe Chamber of Mines Chief Executive Officer Isaac Kwesu underscored the importance of the tournament beyond sport, highlighting its role as a platform for dialogue.

“The Jumbo is an opportunity to engage freely away from the hustle and bustle of the working environment. It allows us to share challenges, celebrate key achievements, and strengthen professional ties. We are pleased with the attendance this year,” Kwesu said.

Kwesu also paid tribute to Mimosa Mine’s century-long legacy, noting the company’s consistent contribution to Zimbabwe’s economy and society.

“Mimosa has been exemplary in its operations, community initiatives, wellness programs, and relationships with host communities. Its journey is a story of resilience, impact, and responsible mining,” he added.

The “Jumbo” continues to be more than a sporting contest. It is a stage where Zimbabwe’s mining leaders reinforce partnerships, celebrate milestones, and envision the sector’s future in a convivial setting.
