Ex-private Ruth Ogunleye, dismissed by the Nigerian military after accusing senior officers of rape and harassment, has released a video condemning her treatment. Ogunleye initially made her allegations via TikTok in January, claiming she suffered at the hands of a general and two colonels. Her claims sparked widespread outrage and prompted the women’s minister to engage with the army chief.

Following an investigation, the army dismissed her allegations, stating she was discharged on medical grounds due to a condition that makes her vulnerable. Ogunleye has now released a second video, demanding the investigation’s findings be made public and detailing her alleged ordeal, including rape and injection by the accused.

Army spokesman General Onyema Nwachukwu revealed the investigation concluded that Colonel I.B Abdulkareem did not commit the alleged offences. He accused Ogunleye of spreading false narratives and engaging in cyberbullying. Women’s rights activists are calling for an independent investigation, questioning the army’s handling of the case and the timing of Ogunleye’s medical discharge.
