A fatal road traffic accident claimed one life and left several others injured in the early hours of December 8, 2024, at the 107-kilometer mark along the Masvingo-Mbalabala Road near Mbalabala.
Speaking to Great Dyke News, ZRP Midlands spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said the accident occurred when the rear left wheel of an Isuzu KB 250, carrying 11 passengers, broke off, causing the vehicle to veer off the road for approximately 50 meters.
The driver, Evison Matutuka (30) of Dadaya, Zvishavane, and all passengers were thrown out of the vehicle.
One passenger, Panashe Chidembese, whose age has not been confirmed, died on the spot after sustaining deep cuts on the left armpit and head, along with multiple bruises.
Four other passengers sustained severe injuries and were rushed to Zvishavane District Hospital, where they are reported to be in stable condition.
Authorities have reiterated the importance of adhering to road traffic regulations to prevent similar tragedies. Motorists are urged to prioritize vehicle maintenance and exercise caution on the roads to curb road carnage.
Investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing.
