Police have called on miners to strictly follow safety guidelines under the Mines and Minerals Act to prevent accidents, following the collapse of a 22-meter-deep mine shaft in Mberengwa that left two miners feared dead.

ZRP Midlands spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said the incident occurred on January 9, 2025, at Knot Brothers Farm. Farai Machenjedze and Desire Mareva, whose full details are yet to be confirmed, were underground when the shaft caved in.

Rescue efforts remain ongoing, but authorities report that loose, rain-soaked soil has hindered progress.
Officials are reiterating the importance of observing mining regulations to avert such tragedies.
