RioZim Limited has taken its Renco Mine employees to court over a strike protesting unpaid wages since July. The 13-day work stoppage, involving over 1,200 workers, has halted operations, resulting in a daily loss of 1.01 kg of gold—more than US$1 million in lost revenue.
The workers dissolved their council committee, citing ineffective representation, and management was forced off-site. Essential services like sanitation and healthcare continue, but mining remains stalled.
RioZim argues the strike is unlawful, lacking union authorization, while workers assert the company has ignored its obligation to pay.
