T.A.L.I Launches “My Freedom of Information Campaign”.

Tag a Life International Trust (TaLI), a girls and young women’s rights organization working with the Fojo Media Institute, and with funding from the Embassy of Sweden in Zimbabwe yesterday launched the ‘My Freedom of Information – MFoI’ Campaign which aimed at enlightening women and girls about the Freedom of Information Act.

In a statement to mark the launch Tag a Life International founding director Nyaradzo Mashayamombe said “the campaign is aimed at enabling the ordinary citizens to participate in their communities in governance and democracy for the betterment of their communities.”

Speaking at the Virtual Launch, Media, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa said government is ready to work with all media institutions and end the polarization of the past.

She highlighted that rebranding Zimbabwe means all stakeholders should work together and end the denial of information that was existant in the past.

The campaign is designed to publicize the Freedom of Information Act so that women, girls as well as female journalists may begin to make use of the Freedom of Information Act and exercise their rights to access to information.

The Freedom of Information Bill came into law replacing the unpopular Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act (AIPPA) on July 1st 2020.
