“Tragic Day on Zimbabwean Roads: Two Fatal Accidents in Gokwe and Gweru Claim Two Lives”.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed two separate fatal road traffic accidents that occurred in Gokwe and Gweru, resulting in two deaths.

The first incident occurred in Gokwe (Nembudziya) on the 12th of August 2024 at approximately 2200 hours. The deceased, Tawanda Gopaza (35), was a passenger on a bus traveling from Mtora Business Centre to Tshoda. 

Speaking to Great Dyke News ZRP Midlands spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said, Gopaza attempted to disembark when the bus reached the 5km peg. As he moved closer to the door, the bus conductor, Gilbert Chihumbiri, opened the door while the bus was still in motion. Gopaza jumped off the moving bus, fell, and sustained fatal head injuries, dying on the spot.

Inspector Mahoko said the second fatality occurred on 13 August 2024 at around 1215 hours on the Gweru-Mvuma Road. He said The deceased, Unotida Mawimba (12), was a passenger in a Silver Nissan Tiida driven by Yevai Mtarahwai. The vehicle was traveling towards Gweru with three other passengers. 

He said the accident happened when Mtarahwai attempt.
