President Donald Trump has declared the suspension of all future U.S. financial assistance to South Africa, citing concerns over the country’s land expropriation policies and alleged mistreatment of certain groups. The announcement was made via a post on Truth Social and reiterated during remarks at Joint Base Andrews.
In his statement, President Trump asserted that South Africa is “confiscating land, and treating certain classes of people VERY BADLY,” labeling the situation as a “massive Human Rights VIOLATION.” He emphasized that the United States “won’t stand for it” and will halt funding until a comprehensive investigation is conducted.
This decision follows the recent enactment of legislation by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, which permits land expropriation without compensation under specific conditions deemed to serve the public interest. The law aims to address historical land disparities and promote inclusivity.
