Vice President Constantino Chiwenga has called on Zimbabweans to embrace the newly introduced Zimbabwe Gold, the country’s new sovereign currency.
In a recent address, the vice-President highlighted the significance of the new currency as a foundational pillar for economic development.
“Our government introduced the Zimbabwe Gold as our new sovereign currency. It is our responsibility as a nation to embrace and protect the new currency as a bedrock and anchor for our economic development,” said Chiwenga.
The Vice President assured the public that the government is actively working to promote the wider use of the local currency and implementing measures to address issues in the exchange market that create arbitrage opportunities. He emphasized the government’s commitment to monitoring financial markets to stabilize the currency.
The introduction of Zimbabwe Gold is part of the government’s broader strategy to assert financial independence and reduce reliance on foreign currencies. Economic experts have noted that while the move is bold, the success of Zimbabwe Gold will depend on the government’s ability to maintain market confidence and curb inflation.
Chiwenga’s message was clear: “Let us all love our currency.” He urged citizens to support the government’s efforts to strengthen Zimbabwe Gold, seeing it as a symbol of national pride and a step towards economic stability.
