VP Chiwenga Gets First Sinopharm Jab Against Covid.

Zimbabwe has started its vaccination programme today after receiving a donation of 200 000 shots of the Sinopharm vaccine from China.

Vice President and Minister of Health and Child Care Dr Constantino Chiwenga volunteered to become the first recipient of the vaccine to assure health care workers who are set to benefit from the first phase of the vaccination programme.

Posting on his Facebook page, President Emmerson Mnangagwa thanked the Vice President who has proved to the nation that the vaccine is safe.

“Thank you to Vice President and Health Minister Constantino Chiwenga for showing Zimbabwe that this vaccine is safe for all our people.

“This is a historic moment in our country’s fight against this virus,” he said.


Zimbabwe aims to vaccinate around 60,000 healthcare and other frontline workers in the first round of vaccinations. The elderly and those with chronic conditions will follow in the second phase.
