Prominent businessman and philanthropist Wicknell Chivayo has gifted vehicles to three of Zimbabwe’s music legends—Mechanic Manyeruke, Olivia Charamba, and Leonard Karikoga Zhakata—as a gesture of appreciation for their inspirational contributions.
In a heartfelt social media post on Monday, Chivayo shared his reasons for the donations, revealing how the musicians had provided hope and solace to him and his late mother, Canisia Chivayo, during difficult times. He also took the opportunity to reflect on his roots, mentioning his mother’s life in Gandami, Chivhu, and his own upbringing in Chitungwiza’s Unit J.
Mechanic Manyeruke, widely regarded as the godfather of gospel music in Zimbabwe, received a Toyota Fortuner. Expressing his gratitude, Manyeruke described the gesture as “a blessing” and thanked Chivayo for recognizing his contributions to the music industry.
Leonard Karikoga Zhakata, another recipient of a Toyota Fortuner, also extended his appreciation, highlighting the importance of kindness and support. He commended Chivayo for not only gifting him the vehicle but also assisting fellow artist Simon “Pashoma” Ncube in the past.
Olivia Charamba, affectionately known as Mai Charamba, shared her heartfelt gratitude after receiving her car. She took the opportunity to thank Chivayo, her supporters, and all who have played a role in her illustrious career as a gospel music icon.
Chivayo’s act of generosity has been widely praised, with many lauding his commitment to honoring Zimbabwe’s music legends.
