Wolves have confirmed that Zimbabwean forward Tawanda Chirewa has signed a contract extension with the club before joining Derby County on a season-long loan. The 20-year-old, who arrived at Wolves from Ipswich Town last year, will spend the 2024/25 season with the Championship side to gain valuable first-team experience.

Chirewa made 10 senior appearances for Wolves last season, eight of which were in the Premier League. Despite being part of the club’s pre-season tours in Marbella and Miami, he has yet to feature in a first-team squad this season.

Wolves’ Head of Professional Football Development, Matt Jackson, praised Chirewa’s progress since joining the club, emphasizing the importance of the loan move to Derby. “Tawanda has matured quickly and now faces the challenge of making an impact in the Championship. We believe the pressure of playing for a big club like Derby will be crucial for his development,” Jackson said.

Chirewa’s loan move is seen as a vital step in his career, providing him with regular playing time and the opportunity to further hone his skills at a competitive level.
