YA FM Chairman Mr. Munyaradzi Hwengwere was presented with an honorary Achievement for Outstanding Lifetime Media Excellency Award at the Midlands Media Awards held recently at the prestigious Changamire Conference Centre at the Village Lodge in Gweru.
YA FM also received an award for the Outstanding Radio Station.
In an interview with Great Dyke News24, Mr Hwengwere said he is happy to receive the awards.
“We feel great particularly because the Midlands Province is a region that has made YA FM.
“YA FM has positioned itself as the Pulse of the Great Dyke, the voice of the miners and 50% of the Great Dyke is within the Midlands. So, this achievement says we are definitely doing something right. It’s more speaking of what YA FM does,” he said.
Mr Hwengwere added that YAFM is there to help the Midlands Province to take up its leadership space and tell its story.
“This is most important for me because it speaks to our organization, and our ethos to say Midlands must be an empowered and developed region, so a leader in that space and getting recognized.
“Finally, for me it’s the fact that the Midlands has a story to tell to the world and the winners here are from Midlands,” he said.
The YAFM chairman also explained his journey in the media fraternity, which has taken him to some countries in Southern Africa.
“My journey in media has been continental, I have been to South Africa, Zambia, Harare and so forth. I started at ZBC, earlier on I was in government as a Principal Press Secretary.”
The Midlands Media Awards were sponsored by Mimosa, Size Investments, River Valley Properties, Zimbuild, Chimona Mining, Zimasco, Gweru City Council, Delta Beverages, King Solomon Hotel, Steel Makers and Shesham.
