Zimbabwe Diamond and Allied Minerals Workers Union (ZDAMWU) has condemned the increasing physical abuse of workers and the use of firearms in labor disputes, particularly in Chinese-operated mines.

In a press statement ZIDAMWU Secretary General Justice Chinhema said this follows a viral video showing an excavator operator at Ming Chang Sino-Africa, being restrained, bound with wire, and threatened at gunpoint after demanding unpaid wages.

ZDAMWU says such labor rights violations are widespread in Chinese-run mines, where workers face poor wages, harsh conditions, and intimidation. The union is demanding government action, engagement with Chinese investors and the embassy, and the creation of an inspection committee to monitor labor practices.

He said as part of its 2025 agenda, ZDAMWU will engage Chinese managers and workers to promote industrial harmony and prevent further abuse
