The Zimbabwe Environmental Law Association has appealed to the government to create a stand-alone gemstone policy.
Speaking to Great Dyke News, ZELA Programs Assistant Fadzai Midzi said the best thing that the government can do for gemstone miners at the moment is fix a formal policy that regulates the sector for proper functioning.
She added that most people are misinformed about gemstones and their values because there is no proper market for them to be exhibited.
A gemstone (also called a fine gem, jewel, precious stone or semi-precious stone) is a piece of mineral crystal which when cut and polished is used to make jewelry or other adornments.
