Zhejiang Huayou Cobalt, through its subsidiary Prospect Lithium Zimbabwe (PLZ), has launched the Goromonzi Community Development Project, a $1.3 million initiative to uplift local communities over three years (2025-2027). Developed in partnership with the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), the project focuses on health, vocational training, women’s empowerment, and energy access.

The health program will educate children on pandemic prevention, while vocational training will equip youth with welding and other skills, supported by apprenticeship and job placement opportunities.

Women will receive sewing training and leadership development to secure stable incomes and form business partnerships. To address energy shortages, the project will install energy storage in schools and provide machinery to support small businesses and youth entrepreneurs.

Speaking at the launch, Zhejiang Huayou Cobalt representative Johnson Jyu emphasized the company’s commitment to sustainable development and collaboration with stakeholders to ensure the project’s success.

He said the initiative reflects the company’s mission to drive economic growth and improve livelihoods beyond the mining sector.
