Zimbabwe is intensifying preparations for its participation in Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan, a premier global trade and investment showcase, as confirmed by Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Professor, Amon Murwira. The country has engaged both public and private sector players to ensure a robust presence at the event, scheduled to run from April 13 to October 13, 2025.
“We have already engaged the private sector, and our preparations are focused on departure and showcasing at the event,” said Prof. Murwira. “Expo 2025 is a critical platform for promoting trade between Zimbabwe and other nations. It is in the best interest of both the public and private sectors to participate.”
The minister underscored Zimbabwe’s commitment to leveraging the global expo for trade facilitation, investment promotion, and tourism marketing—three key pillars in the country’s international economic strategy.
“A country can only generate wealth through trade. You don’t accumulate from what is already in your basket; you accumulate by acquiring what’s outside the basket,” he noted, reinforcing the significance of export-driven economic growth.
To ensure seamless participation, Zimbabwe has already dispatched its first container of exhibits to Japan, with more shipments in the pipeline. These will include high-value products, investment portfolios, and tourism showcases designed to attract foreign direct investment (FDI) and boost international market access for Zimbabwean goods and services.
Zimbabwe at Expo 2025: A Strategic Play
Expo 2025 Osaka, sanctioned by the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), is themed “Designing Future Society for Our Lives.” The event will bring together 161 countries and 25 international organizations, offering Zimbabwe an unprecedented opportunity to strengthen its trade alliances and explore new markets.
The expo’s key focus areas—”Saving Lives” (health), “Empowering Lives” (education and innovation), and “Connecting Lives” (global partnerships)—align closely with Zimbabwe’s economic and social transformation agenda. The government sees the event as a platform to reinforce Zimbabwe’s brand on the world stage, positioning it as a viable trade and investment destination.
With an estimated 28 million visitors expected at the expo, Zimbabwe is poised to tap into this vast audience to generate trade leads, forge strategic partnerships, and enhance its global market positioning.
