Zimbabwean Consumers Embrace Local Products

Zimbabwean consumers have embraced buying local products in retail and wholesale outlets around the country. This was observed during the Buy Zimbabwe Week which kick started yesterday nationwide.

In an interview with Great Dyke News 24, one of the Buy Zimbabwe brand ambassadors Nyashadzashe Krispen said customers are buying local products and are happy with the local quality.

“We have been talking to customers and employers about how it is important to buy from our local manufacturers. I am particularly happy about the outcome of the week and how we are doing as most customers are able to identify our local products through our Buy Zimbabwe insignia.

“Customers are actually preferring to buy local. Buy Zimbabwe has empowered us young people to be able to partake in this initiative to build and develop our nation, “she said.

One of the customers at Gain Cash and Carry wholesale at Sam Nujoma Street in Harare who preferred anonymity urged local companies to be consistent on quality and pricing.

“Our local products have good quality though some of them are overpriced.  Let our local prices be at reasonable levels so that they can be afforded by everyone. We also urge our local companies to be consistent on pricing and quality, “ he said.

The Gain Cash and Carry, Branch Manager, Mrs Priscilla Mazambara said that they have been basing their value chain on local goods and services.

“We have about 95% local products in our shelve space. We buy and procure our raw materials and products locally.  We use transport from local suppliers and we urge other local wholesale and retail outlets to procure local goods and services because by promoting local you create and save a job, “she said.

Buy Zimbabwe is on a campaign targettedat achieving 80% local content within the next five years in the majority of products that are in Zimbabwe’s wholesale and retail outlets.

Buy Zimbabwe Week which runs from the 22nd and 26th of November is dedicated to promoting the production and consumption of local products.
